Sunday lesson: Faith

Diane filled in and shared our lesson today on Elder Holland's talk, Lord I Believe and Sister Dalton's talk, Be Not Moved! 

She had us think of the faith continuum (the desire to believe on one side and a sure knowledge on the opposite) and list some experiences where we felt we were on one side or the other. We discussed what causes us to fluctuate from one side or the other and how doubt and fear are actually on the faith continuum. However, we want doubt and fear to push us to a sure knowledge.

The essential questions for the lesson:
What do we do in times of doubt?
Why choose faith?

And, some 'gems' that Sister Diane Silla picked out for us from the talks:

The size of your faith or the degree of your knowledge is not the issue, its the integrity you demonstrate toward the faith you do have and the truth you already know.

Honestly acknowledge your questions and your concerns, but first and forever fan the flames of your faith, because all things are possible to them that believe.

If ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe.

In this church, what we know will always trump what we do not know. And remember, in this world, everyone is to walk by faith.

If you and your family want to be healed, don't let those questions stand in the way of faith working its miracle.

Be not afraid, only believe.

Stand in holy places, and be not moved.

Stand firm. Be steadfast.

Stand for faith and righteousness.

Stand as a witness.

Be not moved in choosing the right.  Be not moved in your desire to remain virtuous.  Be not moved in being worthy and to make and keep sacred covenants.  Be not moved in your acceptance of the Savior's atonement.

Sunday Update

Sister Linda Widman gave our lesson today from the Lorenzo Snow manual. The topic was Lesson 21: Loving God More Than We Love the World.  She shared several ways that we can keep our eye and heart on loving and serving God and in turn gaining strength to avoid temptation.

Activity recap and a note from Sister Kelly

What a wonderful evening we had at our Relief Society Who's Who event. We had a delicious catered meal from Panera {soups, salad, and cheesecake! Mmm...cheesecake!}, were treated to a beautiful musical number by Sister Cherie Purdy accompanied by Sister June Germanis and a lovely message by Sister Kate Mitchell. We then spent the remainder of our evening getting to know each other better through a speed-friendship activity. We laughed and laughed, and had such a wonderful time. Thank you to all who came! {We missed the rest of you!}



Dear Sisters:

Thank you so much for participating in the event last evening.  I had such a wonderful time.  It is proof positive how much we love to be together because we laughed and talked and shared for over two hours.  

I loved the song that June and Cherie performed.  I loved it! I still have the melody and some of the words dancing in my head.  The feather trees.  The food.  The speed dating.  And...the card with the wonderful things about me was amazing.  I was a bit emotional when I read all the words in the heart. Meghan, you were so inspired to organize this.  I will be putting mine in my paper scriptures!

Kate, your speech was perfect.  You are a gift! And your words helped us all feel in the room that we are ALL "a gift."  

How I truly love you all.  I am not a big fan of sleep-overs, but in the middle of the evening, I thought to myself, "I wish I would have brought my pillow and sleeping bag and pajamas, because I don't want to leave these sisters!"

Sunday Lesson

Sister Kate Mitchell gave a beautiful lesson about relying on the Savior during difficult times. Each Sister wrote a question (anything from how to 'fix' child tantrums to finding 'me-time' to having hope and faith in the blessing promised us through priesthood blessings, and the like) and we discussed solutions/answers as a group. Ultimately we find our answers through prayer, study, faith, etc. We must rely on our Savior.
