Funeral reminder

Just a reminder, Sisters. Joan's funeral time changed. It will be held this Saturday, March 1st, 11:00 am at the Parkway ward building.  If you would like to come early to pay your respects to the family, there will be a visitation (no casket) from 10-11 am.

For those bringing food for the family luncheon, you can still drop off food at 10 am or 11 am in the kitchen.

Feel free to email Kate with any questions, and thank you for all of your support of the Sieke family.

February Activity Recap: Pie Night

We had a wonderful evening learning how to make perfectly flaky pie crust from DeAnn. She also demonstrated how to make her famous Apple pie and we were able to taste it (as well as her Apple-Pear pie)! Mmm...boy, were they delicious! It was a wonderful evening! Thanks to all you came.

Sunday Recap: February 23

Sister Silla gave our lesson today from these two General Conference talks:
Be Ye Converted by Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson
Draw Closer to Him by Elder Terence M. Vinson

Her main questions were:
What is the difference between having a testimony and being converted?
How do we know if we are moving closer to Him?

We spent the majority of time in groups discussing different quotes from the talks and coming up with what it means to be truly converted.

C - Conviction
O - Obedience (live principle first than gain a testimony and become converted)
N - not an event, but a process
V - view (envision the things of a better world)
E - entitled to a spiritual witness
R - Righteous principles are the foundation of our lives
S - Sacred covenants move us closer to Him
I - Increase in confidence
O - Our will aligns with His
N - notice how God is vying for our attention.

Ward Cookbook

Hello Everyone!

As some of you heard at tonight's RS activity, we are going to make a cook book with our "tried and true" recipes! These could be the spinach dip you bring to every party that people are dying to know what's in it or perhaps that sneaky recipe that tastes like 1000 calories but is actually fat free- you get the idea, a recipe that is a favorite go-to food. Men and women can all participate! Sorry kids, you'll need a few more years.

It will likely cost $5-6/person for the spiral-bound 6"x9" book. It depends on how many are ordering and how many recipes are included.

There are 4 categories:

1. Appetizers
2. Main Dish (anything you eat for a main meal any time of day. Salads included!)
3. Desserts
4. Breads (muffins, rolls, loaves, etc)

If you would like to participate, you can submit up to two recipes per category.

To submit a recipe, email parkwaycooks@gmail.com - avoid any special formatting and no attachments. This will simplify putting it all together. Also, it would be extremely helpful if you used these  abbreviations:

c. = cup
tsp. = teaspoon
tbs. = tablespoon

Don't forget to list important info like baking time or oven/range temperature. Directions in a numbered format would also be awesome! (ex. 1. Preheat to 350 2. Mix everything 3. Pour into 8x8 pan 4. Bake for 18-20 min 5. Eat up!)

Lastly, please add in your comments!! We would love your thoughts- "this can be made vegetarian by omitting the chicken for tofu- I always bake this on Sundays!" or "this is grandma's recipe from 1869 and we have been making it every Christmas since."

Deadline to submit is MARCH 1st. Please participate! We want your recipes!

So excited to see what you submit!

Sunday Lesson: February 16

Sister Linda Widman gave our lesson today from the manual, lesson 4 : Strengthening and Preserving the Family. We discussed a lot about negatively discussing our family issues or problems in social settings. If all we focus on is the negative, it's all we begin to see. Our families are the ones we love the most and we should treat them as such.

Sunday Lesson: February 9

In the third hour of ward conference today the stake leaders discussed family history work and ways to fortify our lives.

For those who missed it, here is a short film to get you excited about starting your own search for ancestors: http://www.lds.org/topics/family-history/connect-with-your-family?cid=HPTH020614438#media=youth-doing-the-work&lang=eng

Sunday Lesson: February 2

Sunday was our Presidency lesson given by Sister Kate Mitchell. Her topic was 'Hastening the Work'.

We discussed all that 'hastening the work means' : temple work, processing to the next ordinance, personal revelation, sharing the gospel, family history, lengthening our stride, visiting teaching, fellowship, building own testimony, etc.

She also pulled from President Ezra Taft Benson's talk from 1990 to missionaries and focused on these four points:

  1. Strive to obtain the spirit---prayer and scripture study
  2. Acquire humility
  3. Love people
  4. Work diligently

Next week is Ward Conference so we will be combined with the Priesthood in the Chapel.
